As a member enrolled in the NALC Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP) you have access to a wide range of essential preventive care services—at no added cost when you use an in-network provider.
Know What’s Covered — Preventive Care Made Simple We've made it easy to understand and use your preventive care benefits so you can take proactive steps toward long-term health.
When you use an in-network provider, the CDHP covers 100% of the preventive care for our members.
That means:
No deductible
No copay
No impact to your Personal Care Account (PCA)
If you use an out-of-network provider for preventive care:
You’ll pay 50% coinsurance after meeting your calendar year deductible
You may also owe the difference between the provider’s charge and the NALC Health Benefit Plan allowance
The CDHP offers preventive care for our members which includes annual wellness visits, recommended screenings, and immunizations—at no cost when you use in-network providers.
What’s Included:
Annual routine physical
Colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy screenings
USPSTF A & B recommended screenings (cancer, osteoporosis, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, HIV, colorectal cancer)
Annual A1C test starting at age 18
Preventive counseling to reduce health risks
Full coverage for:
Pap tests, STI counseling, contraceptive coverage, and domestic violence screenings
Newborn protection medication
Mammogram coverage (one between ages 35–39; annual starting at 40; 3D mammograms included)
CDC-recommended vaccines, including flu, pneumonia, shingles, and hepatitis, are covered in-network.

Healthy Starts for a Healthier FutureThe CDHP is committed to supporting our members’ families from birth through early adulthood. With fully covered in-network care, children get the preventive services they need to grow strong and stay healthy.
Newborn Exam First checkup for babies covered under a family plan
Routine Well-Child Visits: Exams and screenings through age 2
Annual Physicals: One per year for ages 3–21, including school, camp, and sports physicals
Annual A1C Test: One per year starting at age 18
All CDC-recommended childhood vaccines are covered at no cost when received in-network, including:
DTaP/Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis)
Polio
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
Varicella (chickenpox)
These vaccines are a critical part of preventive care for postal employees’ dependents and help keep communities safe.
Members can earn $30 in health savings rewards when their child completes six well-child visits through age 15 months. This not only encourages preventive care but also supports early detection and intervention if needed.

Annual Biometric Screening Includes:
Body Mass Index (BMI) measurement
Waist circumference check

Blood pressure reading
Fasting blood sugar test
By completing your screening, you’ll earn $30 in health savings rewards—extra funds you can put toward eligible medical expenses.
Staying protected from preventable illnesses benefits your health and your wallet. Eligible postal employees can earn rewards for keeping vaccinations up to date.
Annual Flu Vaccine: Protect yourself each flu season and earn a $5 health savings reward.
Pneumococcal Vaccine: Reduce your risk of serious respiratory illness and earn a $5 health savings reward.
These vaccines are covered at no cost when you use an in-network provider, ensuring that preventive care for postal employees is both convenient and affordable.

Personal Nutrition Counseling: One-on-one guidance to help you meet your health goals
Family-Centered Programs: Support for the entire household when medically identified
Educational Classes: Led by registered nurses or dietitians
To help you plan ahead, here are examples of services that don’t count as preventive care:
Lab tests not listed in our Plan brochure under adult or child preventive care
Hearing tests (unless specifically listed)
Travel or job-related vaccines, boosters, or medications
Physical exams for work, school, camp, sports, or travel
Out-of-Network Reminder: If you receive preventive services from an out-of-network provider, you'll pay 50% coinsurance after meeting your deductible and may be responsible for the balance between the charge and our Plan allowance
